Braving the shave for Macmillan!
Call centre worker decides to show support to cancer charity Macmillan by shaving her head to raise money and awareness of the disease.
Teri Skinner, from Ipswich works as a Customer Care Advisor at Ansaback, in the Escalations and Social Media Team within the call centre. Based at Ransomes Europark in the town, Ansaback are a leading UK contact centre providing a wide range of professional services through the UK and London 24/7 365
Taking inspiration from her 3 daughters, who all ran the Race For Life in 2015 and the Pretty Muddy 5k this year, both for Cancer Research UK, Teri wanted to take part with her daughters in the 5k muddy obstacle course when it took place on 18th June. Sadly shortly before the event, Teri suffered injury and was unable to take part. Despondent and disappointed, she vowed to her daughters she would raise money for charity in another way.
She came up with the idea of shaving her head one evening whilst sat watching the TV with her husband and the advert for Macmillan’s Brave the Shave came on. She joked with her husband, half expecting him to tell her not to be ridiculous but to her surprise he encouraged her and thought it was a great idea. It was the Teri thought “I can actually do this!” and a plan was put into place.
Cancer charities are particularly close to Teri’s heart, with losing close family members to the disease over the years. Teri says: “People were telling me how brave I was, and how they admire what I was doing but in my eyes, some people don’t have the option. For those going through certain treatments for this hideous disease, losing their hair is the biggest point for them. I wanted to show my support and in the process, if I can raise even the smallest amount to help fight Cancer it would be worth it.
Teri’s shave took place at Ansaback within the call centre on Sunday 10th July, with her colleagues around her cheering her on and showing support. There’s still time to sponsor Teri, visit her fundraising page here.
